Thembeka Ntaba

Founder and community leader

Founder and community leader, brings lived experience, compassion, and determination to the organization. Following the devastating 2019 floods, she initiated the recycling project to restore environmental dignity and create income opportunities for vulnerable households.

Nompilo Phungula

Co-Founder and community outreach leader

Co-Founder and community outreach leader, contributes strong organisational, communication, and youth mobilisation skills. She plays a key role in environmental education, stakeholder engagement, and operational coordination. Recycling is considered as her passion.

Mpume Hlophe

Founder and strategic development lead

Founder and strategic development lead, provides academic depth and strategic direction to the organisation. With a strong background in Supply Chain Management and ongoing postgraduate studies. Her vision ensures that community initiatives are both impactful and scalable.

Use-It Waste Beneficiation (RF) NPC

USE-IT Waste Beneficiation (RF) NPC is a Durban based non-profit company driving the circular economy through waste to resource innovation, job creation, and enterprise incubation. Our work turns what would otherwise go to landfill into local economic opportunity training and supporting small projects, we create green jobs, reduce environmental impact, and build pathways for inclusive growth. Each ton of waste diverted from landfill represents not only a cleaner city but measurable carbon savings and local livelihoods sustained.

eThekwini Municipality – Economic Development Unit (EDU)

The Dassenhoek Buy-Back Centre has been made possible through the support of the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development Unit (EDU), which has provided funding through USE-IT Waste Beneficiation(RF) NPC. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to local economic development, job creation, and environmental sustainability within township communities. Through this support, the Buy-Back Centre serves as a critical platform for waste recovery, income generation, and the development of small enterprises in the circular economy. The contribution of the eThekwini Municipality EDU enables the continued growth and impact of community based recycling initiatives, supporting livelihoods while advancing the city’s waste diversion and green economy objectives.
